A few weeks have passed, and I completely forgot to tell you about our little birthday party for The Princess, aka Miss Lulu.
She must have known something was up from the moment a placed out a small bouquet of lavender roses, her favorite.

She anxiously kept guard, waiting to see if there was going to be a surprise party.

Alas, no party. But, there was a fun little game of hide and seek. Dusty hid in the tub. We didn’t go looking for him. It was funny.

After playing hide and seek, it was time to serve lunch, and Miss Lulu got to sit at the head of the table. And, a rather surly kitten got a little upset that HE wasn’t the center of attention. He gave her a stare before taking off to get her a gift.

After lunch, the party resumed in the weaving studio where I gave Miss Lulu her new hand-woven blanket in her colors of white, pink and blue. She liked it a lot and proceeded to take a nap on it right on the desk. She was a very sleepy girl from all the excitement.

Dusty took a nap, too, because being a bully can be very tiring.

After nap-time, I reminded him that he needed to give her his gift.

Since he doesn’t get an allowance, he gave her something else that he got, all by himself. Something she didn’t already have…

Yes, he got her a live (now dead) mouse. That Dusty, he really knows how to party!

Wow, did Dusty actually kill the mouse?! Vs my kitties who thought it was a toy…
Happy belated birthday, Miss Lulu!

A blankie lives forever, a mousie only until it starts to stiffen…
I love the line “…being a bully can be very tiring” and the fact each cat has a blanket that goes with the coloring. I’m sure Dusty tries to take Miss Lulu’s but does she ever take his?
It sounds like a fun day was had by all as the newly died yarn dried over the tub.

WTG on the present Dusty! Did you catch that by yourself for real? They still have a little life left in them when I give them to my mom… she never seems to fully appreciate my gifts.
Your friend,
Bonny

What a fabulous birthday party! And Dusty outdid himself. It goes without saying that he’s a good hunter (as all boys are?) but yet I’m wondering where he got it from? Mice in the flat?? Don’t tell me though that Daddy did the job!

dude, wait a minute. …did the cat kill a random mouse? ….or did you give them a mouse for the occasion? – because that’d be pretty gnarly!

So thoughtful of Dusty to pick up something special at a local “establishment” for Miss Lulu.
Cats can be so generous with their “gifts”, can’t they? My late cat Sebastian once brought in a similar “gift”, which he carried through the cat door and up the stairs to my son’s room, obviously to share with his “brother”. My son was not amused and poor Sebastian came running back down the stairs, still with his “gift” not knowing to whom to share it with. We ultimately were able to get the little creature safely outside, but it was hard to be too upset at Sebastian. He was just trying to share.

Poor little boy mouse! Well at least you won’t have him chewing your fiber, loom or wheels. Miss Lulu seems pleased.
Happy Birthday, Miss Lulu!

I was thinking that that was one very realistic toy! I guess that if Dusty was able to get him, it is a good thing that you have Dusty around. Mice in you stash! EEEEEPPPPP!

It’s so annoying when you hide and no one looks for you. But a real mouse? The boy ROCKS! And even more awesome, he was willing to share.

I do hope that Dusty’s present was a OOAK and not to be followed by a “Mouse of the Week” subscription.

Lucky Lulu! I’ve been wanting to get my cat (Scout) a mouse to hunt/play with for the longest time, but I was accused of being cruel by my, well, everyone. So glad to see that I’m not alone in just wanting to encourage the instinct.
Scout is an indoor cat only, like Lulu and Dusty, but she does get to spend lots of time on the screened-in front porch. In fact, I have to play “Corral the Kitty” every night when it’s time to go to bed, to get her back in house.
