Sunset Fibers Handspun I

Another spinning from an independent hand dyer. This one is from Sunset Fibers, it’s Corriedale wool, and I started out with a half pound of it. The color run or color sequence is longer than I usually like, but it worked out nicely in the final plying.

And, for the record, I plied the whole thing onto ONE bobbin on my Matchless spinning wheel. Here is proof that a regular bobbin can hold a lot. And, I’m talking about SEVEN OUNCES on ONE BOBBIN! Yes, you read that right, seven ounces. Check out this beauty:

And her fiber is impeccable. There was no matting or felting. Nothing. It was perfect to spin, and it spun up quickly, too. I’ve got more from her that’ll be coming up soon.

With the long color sequences, I can’t wait to see how this weaves up.

I can get 8 oz if fat yarn on my Louet S10.It looks about the same though, just as stuffed as can be!

You are going to submit some of this beauty to the “I made it on my Schacht” contest, right? If I could finish something, I would!

Were you holding your breath to see if it would all fit on one bobbin? It looks to be a pretty close fit!

Lovely colours Dave! My Majacraft bobbins hold 8 ounces and their jumbo bobbins ( plying or bulky spun fat yarns) hold a pound.

Trust me, it’s a lot and takes forever to fill!

My Woolie Winder bobbins will hold 8 ounces, and it takes just forever to ply them off – especially with a fine single.

I checked out the website and it looks like the only way you can get 4 ounces is through the fiber of the month. Is that what you did? I’m a little leery about not knowing what the colors are going to be.
By the way, if you want smaller repeats in a roving, split the roving in half, in fourths, whatever you need. Might be interesting to spin half of it as is and the other half split the roving in 2, then ply the results.
