The Book: Where Color Meets Texture…

There have been times when I’ve made something exceptionally nice, and someone will comment or send an email saying I should publish a book.

Well, truth be told, I have. And this is the 2¢ tour of my book, Where Color Meets Texture…the Fiber Arts of David Taylar Daniels.

This is the front cover of this adorable little hard cover book, showing a close up of one of my favorite handspun yarns, my Kaleidoscope Handspun. In person the colors are much better than this photo of the glossy book cover.

The Fiber Arts of David Taylar Daniels

The inside first page shows an amethyst slice with the skein of Amethyst handspun yarn, and the book credits. Yeah, it’s a book by me, about me, so my name’s in a few places…

This is a two-page spread, showing the progression of a project, from dyeing, the finished yarn, then weaving, and the final finished woven project.

Another fun spread is the story of the Drunken Prom Dress Shawl, and it’s origins as a handspun yarn first. My photography has never looked better as it does on this quality coated pages.

More pages of hand dyeing and the woven scarves…

More photography of the various tools I use…

And, even the silly composite photo of me in the studio makes it to the back cover.

And, unfortunately, there are only two copies in existence of this personal fiber arts documentary book. One is for me, and the other is for my dad for his birthday. Because every dad should have a coffee table book of their kid’s work to show off to their friends.

I like the composite photo. I wondered, for just a moment, whether you’d cloned yourself and that was why you were so prolific.
The book is a great idea, hope he appreciates what a creative son he has.

all aaawing and oooing aside. have you thought about writing a book for real?there are many books out there for dyeing, spinning, weaving etc, but you do it all. a book about projects from start to finish, wool to garment and everything in between with your scrumptious photos showing every step, describing the materials you use and the specs (wpi, sett etc.)for every project.
Your yarns and finished items are so inspirational.as a matter of fact as soon as i saw your blog headline and before i found out there where only two,i was geared to buy your book!
    just an idea!:)

That totally rocks! Being the multi-talented guy you are, I wouldn’t be surprised if you made the whole book yourself. Did you? That’s going to be SUCH a coffee-table treasure!! (If, by any small chance, it’s a print-on-demand book, then I demand one and will pay up to $50 for it.)
