Autumn Basketweave Project Fabric

The fabric is done. This was a test piece for the upcoming Weaver’s Swap so I could see what I was doing. it doesn’t meet the requirement of being 12" wide or 2 yards long. It was just a fun little piece to make up and play with.

One of the things I was trying to do was to make sure that all aspects of the fabric-making were consistent, right down to the selvedges.

Then, I had a brainstorm that I should try and make some other things, like a strap. This was woven on the same loom set-up after the main weaving was cut off. I packed the warp really tightly, losing the basketweave pattern, giving the strap more durability. I think this is the "long" way around making straps. I think it’s time to consider an inkle loom once and for all. (Do they make them in cherry wood???) I’ve always wanted one…

And, being on an accessories roll, I also made an assortment of cords…

…more cords, more straps and bands, and some contrasting basketweave fabric pieces. This should be enough stuff for me to make myself a nice little bag of some sort.

Dave, seriously, you’re having too much fun. The cranky-police are gonna come kick your keester if you keep this up. You’re supposed to need drugs and expensive cars to be this happy. OH hell, I don’t WANT to stop you. I’ll join you. If enough of us start having weaving fun, it’ll become a movement! The Alice’s Restaurant Peace and Freedom, Love of Fiber movement! Sing it, Arlo! “You can get anything you want, at . . .”

    Happy day, dear!

I love all the coordination with the pieces. Do you ever sleep? Or do you weave in your sleep?

Dave- I hate to tell you this but I have a cherry and maple inkle loom.
It’s handmade and I got it at a spinning/weaving sale in Danville NH. The Long Pond Spinners had a barn sale last summer and I picked it up for $50!
I didn’t realize what I had until I took the old Howard’s Feed and Wax to it.

If I ever find another- it’s yours

    Very nice selvedges!
And weaving strapping on a traditional loom is much quicker than on an inkle loom. But the inkle is much more portable and you can weave strapping without tyeing up your other loom. But it certainly wont be any quicker.
