Basketweave Fabric

I don’t what what this is going to be. It is some 10/2 cotton, 120 ends warped at 12epi, weaving at 9 inches wide, and will see if I have enough cotton to be around 4 yards long.

I just wanted to weave and didn’t want to cut into any of the new handspun yet. Cotton was the option. I chose three colors to work with. The warp is a nice copper brown. The weft is a nice olive and a gold tone. I threaded it in a 1 2 3 4, and started doing a 2/2 twill on treadles 1 & 2, and 3 & 4, and using two throws of each color as I go. It’s become a nice badketweave.

I have no idea what I’m doing, but it sure looks pretty both up close and from a distance. It should be finished over the weekend, and I’ll have a better idea of what it wants to be…

    I’m thinking “picnic throw.”

I have totally fallen in love with weaving tea towels and hand towels from 8/2 cotton. It’s so much fun to experiment with all the patterns you can get on one long warp.

It is pretty no matter what you use it for!
Nice to see you weaving again!

I like the color combination. It really does look like a basket. I’m curious what it will be, too.

For some reason, I find it Thanksgiving-y. I love the close up photo, very cool in it’s own right. Keep us posted on it’s transformation.

Very autumnal. And it’s making my eyes cross!

I can see this used in some of the shots you’ll be doing for autumn and Thanksgiving at work. Maybe they’ll give you a bonus for bringing in your own props :P

Lovely and elegant in its simplicity. Crisp colors and neatly executed. I want to be like you when I grow up.

Kickass work! 9 inches wide by 4 yards long? Heck, you have an obi for a mature woman’s kimono!

I think this helps explain why I’m not drawn to weaving–I’d NEVER be able to cut this fabric. It’s really lovely.

That is just great! I will have to try something similar if I ever get this warp off my loom.

12 epi is a very very loose sett for this. Something closer to 20 epi, perhaps even higher because it’s basket weave, not plain weave. If you have any warp leftover when you are done, you might cut off and resley just to see what it would look like at a finer sett.

It is pretty – maybe a lap throw…picnic blanket…all sorts of possiblities!!!
