Pheasant HandSpun Yarn

When I first started dyeing this merino wool, I was going for mottled oak leaves. Now that it’s done, it looks more like pheasant feathers to me.

It spun up very consistently and fine. I liked the contrast in the colors and they were still harmonious.

But, once it was done, it had a totally different look from the original dyed fiber. The browns softened nicely, and the pale olives and golds blended in perfectly.

It’s a scrumptious two-ply with enough yardage to work up into something special.

I love the fall, my favorite time of year, and I can see this one woven into some nice fabric for pillowcases for on a chair or chouch. Perfect for those nice crisp fall days at home sipping hot tea (or chocolate) and staring out the window.

Of COURSE you spun it up fine and even! And everything that you dye and spin is scrumptious! Well, I have to admit that the eyeball searing colours that sometimes parade by ( you know who you are highlighter) wouldn’t necessarily be called “scrumptious” but Pheasant neatly fits into that category.

It reminds me more of autumn oak leaves now than it did when it was in roving form. It makes me want to shuffle my feet through it.

Yeah, like Chris said! What happened to summer. And it seems the little birds outside my window are asking the same thing. Actually, they are hollering for seeds this morning.
    Another nicely done job!

I’m always amazed at how different roving can look from the finished yarn

It reminds me of when my red maple leaves fall in the winter. They have that gold/red/occasional purple look to them. I know, I rake up three giant trees worth every year.

I am amazed by the fineness of your yarn. I tell people that I spin thick because I like to. I am currently working on spinning a bunch of flax I was given. My goal is to spin and weave three pieces to frame for my office. I am slowly working thru the pictures on your site, so you will probably hear more from me. Love your pictures and all the good info.
